These vegan caramel slices will make you addicted! They have been one of my favorite desserts for several months now and are regularly prepared and devoured.
The three layers harmonize wonderfully: The base layer of dates and nuts is perfectly rounded off by the creamy Tahini caramel layer and the coated chocolate layer. On top of that, the dessert contains no sugar, no gluten and can therefore be enjoyed without any doubts 🙂
When I met a dear friend in Australia, she luckily shared this delicacy with me. Maybe you can taste a bit of sunny Australia in the tasty almonds? 🙂 The great thing about these vegan caramel slices is, that you can enjoy them in any season. On hot summer days, I like to pack the shape in the freezer, so they are really nice and cold. In winter, you can enjoy them slightly cooled from the fridge.
1/2 cup dates
1/2 cup almonds
1 tbsp peanut-butter
1 tbsp coconut oil
1/2 cup Tahini
1/4 cup Coconut Oil
1 tbsp honey
1 tsp cinnamon
1/3 cup coconut oil
3 tbsp cacao powder
3 tbsp honey
- Crush the almonds and dates into very small pieces and mix it up with peanut butter and honey. Once mixed, fill the mixture into a form (freezable and sealable) and put it in the freezer until it gets hard.
- Mix the liquid coconut oil with the tahini, honey and cinnamon. Pour the tahini mix over the nut layer and put it back to the freezer.
- Last but not least, mix the liquid coconut oil with cacao powder, honey and sea salt. Pour the chocolate over the tahini layer and let it cool in the freezer until its firmed. Enjoy!
Can you substitute maple syrup for the honey?
Hi Brenda! Yes sure, you can use honey instead if you’d like. I’ve never tried it with honey, but it should definitely work. Maybe you might need a bit more of it, but I would just taste and see when it is sweet enough for you. Enjoy your caramel slices 🙂
